Jacob Giles

With Brooklyn, NY in his veins courtesy of an absent father and a visceral love of soulful music thanks to a reggae/blues/classical-loving Kiwi mum, Jacob Giles has been producing music since the age of 15. It was while rocking the original playstation to its core in the '90s that Jacob realised machines could be used to make songs, and so he could bypass the years required to learn how to play "real instruments".

After a year exhausting every processing cycle and reaching playstation program limits, Jacob Giles moved onto a PC and started using software alongside a basic MIDI keyboard, a cheap dynamic mic and a whole lot of passion. He honed his hip hop production by bringing increasingly dark and techy drum'n'bass techniques together with a deep love for the art of sampling and drum programming.

Jacob now rolls state-of-the-art, with Cubase on a turbo-charged, plug-in filled PC alongside a Nuemann TLM-49, an Akai MPK-49, a Focusrite pre-amp and a Liquid-Mix. More than just a beat-maker, Jacob Giles is a producer and a composer, and has the ability to see a project's potential right from the get-go.

A major focus for 2008 has been the debut release from Jacob's 1nf0 collaboration with Sydney master of freestlye, Nick Knowledge, titled Information Jakeknowledgy. A nine track monster of addictive hip hop production laced with cyber-effected vocals, 1nfo's inaugural project is a platform on which Jacob displays not just his amazing production skills, but also his talent as an MC.

To celebrate hatonrack's second birthday and the completion of 1nf0's debut release, Information Jakeknowledgy is being released as a free download from 8th December 2008. Download Information Jakeknowledgy now, and send your friends the link.

Jake has collaborated with some of Australia's best hip hop artists including 13th Son, Hau, Nick Knowledge and 206collab, and is producing tracks for an increasing list of established musicians in Australia and abroad.

A true talent in today's quagmire of cookie-cutter tracks and vocoder-drowned monstrosities, Jacob Giles will eat your babies and make it sound like sex for your ears. Ears to the ground in 2009 for his debut full-length, State of Mind. Booyah!
