1NF0

1NF0 super-producer Jacob Giles speaks on how the 1NF0 collaboration between he and hatonrack mega-artist Nick Knowledge came together.

In the beginning...

1nf0 started out as an informal project between Nick and I. We met on the Stolen Records hip-hop show on Sydney's FBI 94.5fm. Nick was freestyling and had his Identity Crisis album launch the next night. I remember thinking he was a confident dude, had good energy on the mic and could freestyle like crazy. I went to his launch the next night and got a copy of his album, and I was impressed. He'd done a whole lot of work to make it happen, and that's the secret ingredient to success - hard work. One day a month or so later I and dropped him a message on myspace asking if he wanted any beats. He ended coming round to the studio a few days later, went through some beats, worked on themes and lyrical styles and so on. Over the next few weeks we developed a couple of tracks, then Nick had the idea of putting out a free mixtape that would work as promo for his upcoming second album, Soul Sample...

Keep It Simple, Stupid

You know how these things go - it started off as a simple project, we were just gonna put like five tracks together. Nothing big, just some beats and rhymes, get our names out there with something easy. Then we started thinking about what to call it, and in a moment of genius I decided that Information Jakeknowledgy would be a cool name for the project (never mind the ridiculous spelling...). So that was the project name, and as time went on we kept on making our beats and rhymes tighter, working out ever more intricate ways of promoting and distributing the mixtape. Two months turned to six turned to nine... As I write this the project is done. We've filmed two video clips, will be finishing a third soon, we have Hau from Koolism on a track, Insyte, Flip + Skip, Justine "The Touch" Eltakchi - DJ Realboy - we really went overboard and ended up turning Information Jakeknowledgy into a beefed up monster!

The Studio A.K.A. The Boiler Room

My studio/bedroom must set a world record for hottest beats. Seriously, that shit gets HOT. We would have four or five people in there sometimes, squeezed in like sardines listening to pre-mix tracks, nodding heads to the beats and sweating like nuns on sundays - crazy. The funny thing is, I think we get our best work done when its hot 'cause no-one wants to spend the day redoing their lines - it's like "get in, get it down, get done, get out" - snap!

2009 IS THE YEAR

So, we've done it - and in your mp3 player or on your 'puter is 15 (maybe 16?...) tracks of blood, sweat and tears. It was challenging making this project, but I always enjoyed it - Nick and I make a good team, and now that we have a live show with DJ Soup, The Touch, Mark McIntyre, Nick and myself, 1NF0 are definitely gonna be rocking Sydney, Australia, and the World in 2009. Can we kick it on the mic?!...
